Value on a W.J.Jeffrey & Co Ltd .450/400 3" double?
      #159976 - 05/05/10 07:38 AM

Does anyone know the approximate value on a W.J.Jeffrey & Co Ltd .450/400 3" double with hammers and toplever?
Rather odd combination?
Said to be regulated with 55grains of cordite. Don't know bulletweight yet.

I'll try to find some more info + pics tomorrow.

Any suggestions on pricerange?

Anyone owning something similar?

Wonder if it can be shot with smokeless powder?

Definitely yes on the smokeless question.
Sounds interesting - look forward to the pictures.

Where is it located ?

Price is different depending on which country it is located.

Neat combination, gets even more interesting if it has ejectors!

Looking forward to seeing photos.

Smokeless sounds very good!!

The rifle is in Europe. But please state the value in the countries you are in. I suppsoe they're more valuable in america, and less in the oceania?

Unfortunately not ejectors..
Dolls head.
Built around 1905 sometime?

Going to take a look at it in the weekend sometime. What should I look for specifically? I know the on face, and slack in any directions, but I'm not familiar with hammer guns

What caliber diameter was most common at the time? I'm probably not allowed to slug the barrels unless I buy it..
Wasn't it more often .411-.412? How does that work with modern bullets?

What to look for (seeing this is a 1905 gun).

Bore condition - sharpness of lands / grooves, No pits

Lack of "Frosting" - at the beginning of the barrel in front of chamber and any length of the barrel - NOTE, I don't have a problem with Frosting as long as the rifling in the 2nd half of the barrel is good.

Barrels "ring" true - hold them by the hook on your finger
and tap the muzzle with a spoon - both barrels should "ring"
like a bell. If not, rib is coming loose somewhere.

Half cock of hammers work - do a drop test onto something soft
like carpet at both full cock and half cock.
