What do you consider the best scope mounts to put on a Winchester 300 WSM ?
It had a set of Warne Mounts but I don't like the way they stick up so I want to replace with something else.
Also - are bridge mounts "old hat" now ? - I have bridge mounts on both my Win 243 and Win 30-06.

I used the standard two piece Leupolds on my Mod 70 Featherweight 300 WSM. They worked fine, but the rear base needed to be reversed so the bolt could cycle without binding, due to the shorter receiver ring.
It slightly reduced the ring spacing but I only had a 2-7x33 Leupold fitted so that was not a problem either. No problems with ejecting empty cases do to the overhanging base at the rear of the action.

Hiwall
I went and "borrowed" a set of Leopold Mounts from a dealer to try and found out about having to reverse the rear base.
If you say it works OK, I'll go ahead and get them put on.
Thanks

You won't have any problems mate, but I must stress that this was with the Standard bases, with the windage adjustable rear, not the dual turn in type. They may work the same, but I don't know for sure.

Leupold Dual Dovetailbases and Low rings(0.65") will fit a 2.5-8x Leupold nicely. Have a look at the latest u.s. GUNS magazine. It has the latest 325WSM set up with this combination on the front page. I have a 2.5-8x in dual dovetails on a SaM70(22/250)with superlowrings(0.55"). I got the front rings from 2sets of std.superlows.But the superlows/2.5-8x combination may not fit the WSM reciever, because the screws are about 6mm further apart. than the std.SaM70 so the bases may hit the scope. But you may be able to get around that by: - chamfering the front of the front base and the rear of the rear base.If you could do that, It would look hot! -The other option is use the longer tubed 1.75-6x or 1.5-5x Leupold with the superlows. The Conetrol system looks good also.
