Hi guys,
Was wondering what you guys thought about the .375 and its capability on taking Australian deer such as Sambar?

I have taken 2 B.C. Bull Moose with my wife's .375 Big Bore '94. Both went down in 2 steps with the 220gr. Hornady being well mushroomed on the off side under the hide.
: I used 38gr. H335, a fairly slow but very accurate 1,940fps load.
: With Re#7 and H332 it can be loaded to 2,200fps with the same 220gr. bullet, and with AA1680, 2,350fps is attainable in the 20" bl.
: This is a marvelous 6lb. rifle/ctg. combination for shooting to 200yds. on medium to large game.
: Both moose were taken at from 90 to 100yds.
: I shallow "V'd" the rear sight and put an ivory bead on the front ramp for a wonderful big game hunting sight.

I have used the Big Bire 94 myself. The .375 Win is a great cartrige, a good friend of mine carried his prospecting for a year in Alaska with flawless results. He shot several moose and bear with his great results. I have toyed with an idea of finding a No.3 Ruger in one too

I have a No. 3 Ruger originally chambered for .375 Win which has been "improved". It was reamed out to the 9.5x57, and man, what a great cartridge. It really speaks with authority. Nice accuracy too.

Ratel74- do you know what bullet he used in Alaska.
; i have friend who just dealt himself into a BigBore94 in .375 Winchester and told him to merely use the 220Hornady. They'd worked for me on moose very well.
: A 260gr. RN or FN in the same style of the 300gr.Hornady RN would be a nice bullet for it.
: BTW- 300gr. Hornady's with a moderate load of H335 gave me 1/2" groups at 40yds. They were only going 1,680fps, so I didn't try them further out. The earlier non-interlocked 300's may even have mushroomed at that velocity - maybe not. I'm sure a guy could get 1,800fps with a 300gr. FN is there was one, other than cast.

I think he made his own bullets off a Corbin Jacketing Machine, they were 230grs, I know he now shoots Hornaday 220 grs bullets. I'll ask him at the range

I own a .375 Win 94 XTR and love it. For Sambar (bearing in mind I have never shot a Sambar) I would say it was capable. But probably at the skinny end. So good for juvinile and does, but perhaps not my first choice for bucks. Having said that I would take it after Sambar, but only if my .300 Win Mag was broken. Probably not the greatest rifle if shooting across a valley. One of the shooting mags (guns and game I think), had a .375 shot buck photograhed in a stream that had taken a few shots to put it down.

Both Mature moose I shot with the XTR .375 Winchester with 220gr. Hornady's at 1,940fps, dropped in 2 strides. I also shot 2 elk with a .45 Colt M94, 340gr. cast FN at 1,730fps. 1 dropped at the shot, the other went 70yds. and dropped.
: I would say that's a bit better than "Skinny end" for sambur, considering those moose ran 800lbs. and 950lbs. each & the elk about 600lbs. to 700lbs. All you must do is to lung him and down he goes.
: They actually dropped faster than close to 30 moose I've seen shot with 7mm mag and .300magnums.(guiding) Many of those were lung shot as well, but with that outrageous noise,(I assume) they run like h--l after being hit.
