more moose
      #24659 - 20/01/05 02:30 PM

I had the opportunity to get pretty close to a big, dry(no calves), cow moose this morning; same one I got close to two days ago but only got one picture then before she spooked.

I had gotten to about 12' of her & that was close enough.

The white tips on the willows are where she nipped off the tips; weather coming in.....feeding all morning.

I had noticed before that she had a problem seeing out of her right eye; the blue area covers about half the eye.

Same cow taken day before yesterday....south end.....she's a big girl!

I know, I should get a real life....following moose around and all...........but I love it.....hope you enjoy the pics.

Joe

Well, I'm sitting in my office today and have a young bull (still has his antlers) and a cow about 30 yards away. They have been up feeding all morning, but now that the sun has broke over the mountains, they've decided it's time for a nap.

The little bull has a nasty wound on his back, nearly the size of a basketball. The hide and hair are gone, looks to be right down to the muscle. He doesn't seem to be any worse for the wear though. He was a bit testy when the birds were hasseling him this morning though.

Oh yeah, my office is in midtown of Anchorage.

DPhillips,

That little bull wouldn't be in back of the Diamond Center would it?...........there was one with a raw bald spot just in front of the hindquarters there the last time I was in town. All but one of the bulls around here that I've seen have already dropped the antlers.....one small bull here still has them.

Naw,
It was over near the Loussac Library on 36th. Him and a cow. The bald spot on this one is right at the spine and down his left side. Mix up with a car maybe? Didn't have a limp at all, but the birds were sure bothering him. Other than that, he seemed fine.
