Hello, I'm new here. I located a rem model 30 action. I remember a post where someone said to use that action and a enfield p14 bolt to make a big bore rifle. Can anyone tell me more about this? Would this be suitable for the 585 Nyati??? Does anyone know who to contact to do this? Thanks in advance for replies....Matt

I have a friend who is having a 585 built on a 30S now. It is plenty big enough and a good sound action. I wouldn't recommend the smith as it has been about 4 years and it is still not finished.

Mick, your friend must have the patience of a saint. I'd have gone down to his shop and demanded my action and whatever parts were laying around and got another smith. I can see a year or so but no longer than that.

I'm not sure how much he really wants to see it finished.

The Remington 30 is a magnum-length action and will handle just about anything you feel up to shooting in it. Some folks don't care for the "dog-leg" bolt handle, but I find it distictive. Here's a photo of a Rem Model 30S (the S was the deluxe gun meaning nothing as far as rebuilding goes) that is chambered for the .460 G&A.

Does anyone know if the Remington Model 30 was push or control round feed? Also when did Remington make the action?

hauptjaeger: I am purely going on memory here, I hope I am correct.. If I recall the Rem model 30 was actually modified P-17 Enfields actions left over from WW-1 contracts. I think they were in production untill the early 50's... Yes they are controlled round feeding.. Of course 30-06 was the most popular chambering to help use up those left over barrels.. If somebody can correct me, please feel free...450
