Chuck Adams takes ANOTHER world record elk
      #9170 - 16/02/04 03:03 PM

Chuck Adams is quite possible the best know bowhunter in the world today. He has more Pope & Young record book entries and more world records than any other archer by far. He has been the brunt of a lot of bad press (as is any successful hunter these days) with claims that he is a bit of a jerk. I had the pleasure of meting him last year.....and nothing could be further from the truth. He was an honest, even hunmble speaker. A true stand up guy. He has made a living offf of hunting, writing and endorsements. And he did all of this with his own hard work. He hunts most often self guided and by himself. He is back in Pittsburgh this week for a convention and I hope to make time to see him again.

Any way, this past archery elk season he took another world record elk! Breaking his own world record from a few seasons ago. Here is a picture of that bull on the reflex bow web site (the bow he used is called "caribou" if you wonder why the picture says this when the mouse pauses on it)

Click on the Chuck Adams link to see all of his big bulls from the past few years. Including his previous (actually current WR 2000 bull until the 2003 bull is official) world record.

Somehow, I think these world record animals are specifically set aside for the hunting celebrities to shoot. SO MANY of these "world records" seem to be killed by the big names it just doesn't seem right.

He and others may be stand up guys but I think something stinks every time I hear "they" broke a new record.

The outfitter/guide/ and celeb sponsors gets the advertisement, etc along with the big celeb endorsement. I really do think outfits hold back the big ones special. Bet ya dollars to doughnuts these outfitters find something they know is a WR and the phone calls start flying.

Just MY opinon.

Ann,

I do not know he details of the current bull he took, put his previous World Record bull was taken on Public land that you, I or anyone with a tag could hunt. He hunted that bull by himself, without a guide. And he sealed the deal. In my book he is one heck of a hunter.

Just finding a bull like that is almost an impossible task. But then actually getting within bow range and taking him is simply amazing. Take 100 bow hunters, point that bull out and tell them to go get him and I'd bet less than 1% would be able to do it. In the end it comes down to hunting skill.

Lots of people will say "If I had all the time to hunt like Chuck Adams then I could get animals like that to" Well..............what is stoping you? (No Ann I do not mean YOU ...it is just rethorical example) This guy saw what he wanted to do with and get out of life and did it. I addmire that. It doesn't happen that often. Most people just "accept" what life gives them and adapt to it.

Ann, like you I used to feel the same way about big name hunters. Then I met and talked to a few Miles Keller being one and Chuck Adams the other. I must say, both were down to earth guys. Just regular hunters in a group of hunters. Neither gave me the impression that they were on a pedistool .....above the rest of us.

If you get a chance, read Chuck Adams book, Life at Full Draw It is not only very good archery book but it talks about what drives the man. He is a supreme preditor. Not very many people have the skill to stalk and take game, on the ground, with a bow. But he does. And he has done it so many times that it surely is more than just luck.
