Is carrying a double like this acceptable?
The only miss fire I have on DVD is a case where she fired the first barrel and the PH told her to put another into him (Bersang) before the shock wears off and that was the one that didn't fire.
Cindy opened the gun, looked at the round, re chambered it and this time it fired.
I'm not familar with the Krieghoff system and this is Strickly guess work~~ but if she started to reload after the first shot and opened the gun enough to de-cock it then the second barrel wouldn't fire when she tried the quick second. Isn't that the way it works?
Again, just guess work. She only has the one double that I have seen so she should know the gun and has taken it up against all types of DG in really rough country where mistakes can be costly. Dave

No, once the Krieghoff kickspanner is pushed forward, the action is cocked, and it continues to work like a conventional DR until the shooter decocks it. Opening the gun doesn't decock it.

The show comes on here Sat. at 4:00 AM ~ I set the DVD but lately have been nothing but re-runs.

I watched (with the camera man behind her) her walk half way across Australia before I realized there were TWO butts bouncing up & down with every step. Dave

A thorough chamber reaming would resolve any ignition problems - at least for me

On one of the segments there is a credit given to: "Australian Big Game".
She called the PH "Simon". Dave

Do you know if she hunted in Arnhemland, an NT station or perhaps a fenced area (eg SE Queensland)?

Thanks for the reply.

Dave,
I hate to tell ya, but must of us carry our doubles like that! They balance quite nicely like that! Most times it is refered to as an "African" carry!

It's a hold over from safari days of yore, when the gun bearer proceeded the hunters on the stalk. It was very easy for the hunter to reach up and "take" his rifle from the gun bearer in this manner.

When I am just walking between hunting areas I use a canvas sling. While stalking, the sling comes off.

Just my opine!

I carry my side by side that way a lot. They are heavy and balanced on the shoulder are an easy way to carry. It also looks dramatic for the photos .

A nice padded wide sling is good too.

I never carry my double open in the field while hunting. One tiny twig or grass-seed on the flats and it won't close, and it takes too long to identify the problem and clear it in an emergency. I carry mine on the shoulder, closed, barrels to the rear.

It is a common courtesy to break the gun in company though, as Cindy has done in the photo. Looks cute, hey!

I was just concerned about wear on the hinge pin as the butt bounces up and down with every step carrying with the action open. Dave

It isn't the hinge pin you have to worry about with that butt bouncing up and down! Sorry....I could not resist.

I didn't realise the double was actually open. I had looked at the angle of the butt to the barrels and thought the curvature was just perspective.

I think she would carry the rifle closed, and has just posed for the photo with the "PC" open action as no doubt all the "range shooters" would get upset.

Especially with the ultra-safe de-cocking safety of the Krieghoff, it would have to be one of the safest doubles on Earth to carry loaded and closed!

I think that she would be better off with the 500/416. What say you Nitro? I know how much you like them.

Those shorts really stand out. I think they were more for the video camera than for the hunting.
