Quite a few people have used the good old 375 for plains game just because "375" is equated with African hunting. It probably won't be needed, but have a slighter bigger than 30 cal is always nice. If you've grown up using an '06, then the 375 would be easy to transition to since they share similar trajectories. Hell, I like to whack squirrels and wabbits with mine.

I do all my hunting with my Sako 375 H&H. It is a wonderfull rifle, practise a lot with your rifle and make sure you know where it shoots at varies distances. It is all the riffle you need IMO. Enjoy it

Great caliber! I don't think there's a finer all around weapon for Africa than a good .375. What brand/model is it?

They don't get any better than that. If it's not scoped yet, may I suggest a Leupold 1.75 X 6, or a 2.5 X 8. Both are great scopes.

I've shot quite a few plainsgame with 375H&H and have been very happy with that calibur. From smaller things like blesbok up to bigger things like eland it's worked like a charm. You have made a good choice IMO.

Superb calibre, capable of taking anything if used correctly.
I used 235 grain bullets for longer ranges/lighter animals and 300grn for closer work/larger beasts.
I have used the 235grn in thick woodland on Roe deer and it anchors them like lightning with surprisingly little meat damage and the ability to get through the foliage that lighter, faster rounds have trouble with.
Use it and enjoy I say!

the 375 H&H is a very boring plainsgame caliber. Everything that you shoot with it just falls down and dies.

I have used it on deer & elk and it whacks them with authority. It would be awesome on plains game.

I have used the 375 HH on elk, eland, kudu, baboon, warthog, rabbits. However, the Hornady 270 grain spire point has failed to open up, so I would only use that bullet for target shooting.

The 375 H&H especially when you reload you will have such a wide variety from 200 gr Impala bullets, or 210 gr Barnes X up to the heavy 380 gr Rhino bullet which almost puts it in the .400 calibre class what more would you need to whack any living animal that walks in Africa.

What I love about the 375 especially but that comes after a lot of practise and getiing use to it is that your naimals drop much faster than with .30 caliber rifles. If for instance you are a first timer in Africa the last thing that youwnat to see is the impala running away into the bush witn you being sure of a good shot but with the extra bit of a bigger heavier bullet you will see that an animal as been hit quite heavy. Does wonder for your confidence

I like the 375 or 416 for plainsgame in Tanzania where I might run into something that might want to scratch or stomp me, but for RSA I would much prefer a 30-06, 300 or 338....Nothing there is going to eat me unless its a black Mamba..

The 375 H&H will get the job done and is the minimum if you happe to run in to DG. But why not have your gun rechambered to a modren cartriage like the 375 RUM. You could also get a synthetc stock. Now you would be in the 21th centry.

I liked my .375 on a South African plains game hunt, and later took it to Zimbabwe for plains game and Cape Buffalo.

The only thing lacking was I didn't have a suitable longer range load for it. Which I intended to develop before I go again with it. Some South African hunting can be at longer ranges and this is where it may prove a problem. However it with a .270 grain does have a similar trajectory to a .30-06 and for 95% of shooting it should do the goods. I only had a 300 gr RN loaded for it.
