Did they really need to do a study to learn that bears are opportunistic feeders?
Every dead elk means a nice gut pile to pick through for a bear.

Here, they do follow hunters and come to elk bugles as well as deer and moose calls. Of course, it could be a race now, between the wolves and grizzlies.

There is a place south of here about an hour that is notorious for grizzly harassing hunters..every year one or two bow hunters gets slapped around and depending on the weather some years gun hunters also have issues retrieving their game if they have to leave a portion in the field over night..

Agree with the previous statement, they really needed a study to know this???

none of that study should come as a surprise to anyone who has spent time around bears. Just as tigers did during the Vietnamese war, bears on Kodiak and the Alaska Peninsula have learned to come to the sound of gunfire as it means meat.

In Alberta ,there has been several incidences over the years of bowhunters calling elk and having a grizzly/ live fur coat respond attacking, mauling and sometimes killing the caller.

Some biologist refer to this as "the dinner bell" syndrome. I guess the greenies and anti-hunters would toot a different tune if some of their outdoor friends got chewed or slapped around.

LOL - 2 friends of mine called in 5 grizzlies to an elk bugle. I think I'd noted it here before. 5 adult grizzlies - no cubs.

That's the last time 'the boys' bow hunted elk with their long bows. Dave noted he felt quite "unarmed", looking into the eyes of a grizzle who's head was higher than his, only 15' away. Big Dave was well over 300 pounds then, but only 6' tall.

They were both sitting on their tree stand seats, with their feet flat on the ground.

The finally winded the boys, probably though they were in a sewage dump (LOL) and took off running- right past Len. Len said he could have touched them with his bow tip - so only 3' or 4' from him.

I expect they both needed a change of shorts.
