Pigs in the rain
      #200856 - 28/01/12 11:22 AM

Well I got up at 3.30am to go pig chasing in the rain.
Thought I would have a look in the shade lines around the fallow cultivations.
My Zastava 9.3x62 was my rifle of choice on the bike in the wet.
Love $500 plastic rifles that work as well as this one.

By fatboy404 at 2012-01-27
The first 4 pigs I got were all boars and caught by the dogs with one pretty handy fella.

The dogs ended up in the lignum (of coarse) full of water.

The dogs finnally let me have a shot.
Shot this boar up the clacker, you can see where the bullet went in his ham and my knife is pointing at the 320 grain PP recovered and where it was recovered.

Shot these couple of sows as well.

Another boar.

By fatboy404 at 2012-01-27

Ended up with 14 pigs by 8.00am.
Love four wheelers, mauser actions with plastic stocks.
Off again in the morning for another look.

"Duke has caught 254 pigs now".

Good stuff.

I could never get 320gn's to stop inside a pig.

I see you have a Yamaha, what's your view on Yam vs Honda vs the rest ? Currently looking.

500.
For a start the yamaha is $3000 cheaper.
It is belt drive like the rotor on a header, nice and simple.
No gear changing.

Will carry me (112kg) and my two dogs (70kg between them) around all day.

My father has two of them on the place with the older one having 22 000 kms on it without a problem.

I haven't found an expanding bullet that will exit a mature pig when shot end on.
That includes my 404 with 400 grain RN.

Yet the same bullet will exit a scrub bull.

I think the pig "soaks" up the energy by moving with the bullet where as a bull is ridgid.
That's my theory.

Yes Neale I am not sure of the science of that theory but you will remember many times we have found the same thing with goats too. I remember well that day we stalked the mob at your dad's and watched them from a "very" close vantage point. A wonderful afternoon with a mate watching nature at play as all the young billy's jousted amongst themselves, but even then as on many occasions since the 9.3 did not exit with your frontal chest shot. Poor young Billy ended up with a 286 grain testicle

good pictures, Neale. TKS.

Damn - all this pig hunting, great pictures and talk of shooting scrub bulls, camels and goats and there's no way I'm going to be able to get over there to 'play' until my wife retires - Damn!

Thanks for making me suffer more from cabin fever! HA!

Really good hunt. I want to try one of your dogs in our raccoondog hunts. I bet it stops those critters quite efficiently.

That was a good day indeed.

But that was a 320 grain PP in his "Kiwi's" which was my first 320 recovered.

Thanks for you comments fella's.

Daryl, I'm waiting for you. !!! Tell your wife to semi retire.

Went again this morning but............that's another story.

Ah yes of course, projectile testing was indeed the initial reason for our stalk. The warm fussy recollections had clouded my memory haha I hope this morning went as well? I am sitting here surrounded by water and the rain won't stop falling, hope no more is coming your way. Thanks for pics as always just so I can be even more envious

The biggest boar that I have put over the scales was 127 kg dressed.
Caught it with the dogs at 2am in the rain.

Have got pigs bigger but only guessing as I didn't weigh them.

He was a lot of work to get out of the creek and onto my ute.

Sold him to the box for the "European market".

Where I am we don't get a lot of real big pigs like the NT and being that they live on grain here 8 months of the year they normally don't have very big tusks.

Living on grain does that make the pork more palatable?

I'm sure it does John.

Would rather eat them than ones living on dead animals/meat.

That's why our pigs are in good nic.

If you spill a shovel full of grain it will be gone in two days.

They are always on the march for grain.
