The initial inspiration for my two Martini projects came from an early Hoffman .25-20 WCF that I bought some time ago. It has an inordinately elegant stock and Michael Petrov believed it was the work of John Dubiel. This is a full sized rifle built for an adult and the proportions are, to me at least, as good as it gets and when I stocked my Martinis the Hoffman was the backdrop. I scribed circle arcs at the rear of the action for the scallops and used a chain saw file to remove the bulk of the material. A 1 1/2" magna-tip sharpening stone was then used to finish the work. I replaced the original through bolt with a 1/4" shanked one made from drill rod. Then 5/16" and 5/8" gun drills were used to drill the hole through the stock. The blank was inletted into the back of the action, rough shaped and set aside for other work. |
