Ruger#1 .450 NE Barrel finally installed!

.450 barrel and Ruger rib installed that will give me one open sight option + the rib uses standard Ruger scope rings.

That looks sweet! Well done. Now you need to get rid of that underlever and swap it to an Alexander Henry style button latch. Stocked similar to the Henry of course.

Looks like it will be a very nice, classy single shot. Great idea.

Have you seen the side lever that they are fitting to No 1's in the states?? Very classy, comes up the right side of the action, I would imagine that it would make for fast reloads.

cheers

I have only seen a picture on this forum, no details but I have a good idea of what is involved as I have converted a Remington rolling block to a side lever.

That side lever Ruger was built over 10 years ago I've been told. It is a one of a kind gem. It side lever conversion was done by the late John Madole and the wood by Steven Dodd Hughes.
There are a number of excellent pictures of it in Hughes' book "Custom

Do yourself a favor and toss the factory original rings. The clamp nuts and screw threads have a history of being soft.
It's the major cause of shifting zero in the Ruger.

I use to drill and tap and instal a Leupold base but Millet introduced a factory pattern that solved the problem. I under stand Warne also makes a Replacement ring that is factory pattern. I don't have any experience with those rings.

DoubleD,

I agree. The screws on Ruger rings will also break under recoil. They are crap. I had it happen to me and caused me to miss a deer. I couldn't figure out what went wrong, but at the end of the day found that the screw had sheared on the back ring, so it was just flapping in the breeze.

Interesting comments on the Ruger rings, especially since I loaded it to the max with "Ruger #1 only" loads when it was a 45/70 with a Leupold 2x7 without a problem.
With the time and effort put into this conversion, new rings would still be good insurance, thanks for the advise. Dave
