Ruger #1 to .450 NE 3 1/4 - Getting closer.

The octagan barrel threaded, chambered and polished ready for rust bluing, the 1/4 rib machined to fit and the walnut forend and the ebony tip ready for "some assembly required". Dave

Octogon barrel...that is going to be sweet!!!! I wish I would have browned the barrel on my 500 NE...have you thought of going that route? I think a browned barrel would look very nice...and different from everyone else's rifle.

Re: Ruger #1 to .450 NE 3 1/4 - Getting closer.

Colorado, I am doing most of the work myself as I can't afford to send it out and have a small machine shop in my basement. Retired means I also have time to work on these projects.
Barrel and chambering were done on a friend's lathe as the barrel is too large to go through my headstock. Lucky he found the time as he builds precision 1000 yd. match rifles in his spare time and stays real busy.
I also was considering changing the #1 over to a side lever but outside issues have forced dropping that project for now - I really like the Deeley & Edge type that I used as a pattern when I built a Black Powder Silhouete Rifle using a Rem. rolling block military action. I have pictures of that 6 month project on file if I can get them to show up.
Ebony is a black dense wood - that piece came from Brownells. Dave
