Yes - tapered paper ctgs work very well in the larger calibres.
In my .69 using .682" ball, 2 wraps of typing paper & 165gr. of 2F GOEX, got the same poi as patched round balls and the same load. Not only that, they gave exactly the same accuracy as well. At that time, I was shooting 1" to 2" 5-shot groups at 100 meters. Several groups ran 1" to 1 1/2".
Friend Dan in Montana found paper ctgs. also do well in his 16 bore flint rifle.
