Trooper, The black powder stalking rifles I have seen all have barrels between 26" and 28" and length of pull of around 14". The Henrys that I have had used 27" barrels. My 17 ga Barnes ML DR has 28" barrels. For the wood, what I have done is to "blow up" a copy of an English rifle so that the stock has a LOP of 14" and use that. Huvius has good comments about straight vs pistol grip stock. Regardless of which style suits you, I suggest the grain of the stock be straight in the pistol grip, particularly for the large bore rifles you are building. Is your twist rate selected for round balls or conicals? . Post some pictures of your hog hunts. Also what part of Louisiana are you located in? I had gone hog hunting in the Slidell and Honey Island Swamp in the 1960 but there were not many hogs then. |
