Re: Just took the big leap

Colorado,

Naw, Kodiaks usually have an unlimited supply of eats, and are generally well tempered. Yes they get big, but pound for pound they are not as threatening as a Grizzly.

Grizzlies are piss and vinegar. If you think you are hunting a grizzly, know that they have been hunting you. They are great hunters, and have a bit more experience at it than I do.

Which reminds me, I need to get that video clip of a medium sized grizzly breaking an elk's neck in a stream. An animal twice its size, yet the damn thing went up, pawed away the antllers and snapped its neck with its hands/paws.

And if you see them at work, they have hands.

Here's a test - go to Kodiak Island and act like you are sleeping on a bear trail. The boars will avoid you, and the mothers with cubs will sniff and go on.

Do that same experiment in grizzly territory. The boars will eat heartedly, and the sows will teach her cubs the finer points of predation.

Playing dead significantly increaes your chances of survival. The boars, unless they are starving, will maul you and go on. Sows with cubs will do a bit more damage, unless it has been a bad year. And Grizzlies have many bad years.

The males will eat 1 to 3 cubs just to get the female to go into heat again.

And we will spend hundreds of dollars to find a female receptive to copulation. Damn.

Sorry, but I digressed.

I'll stick with my tag line.

And remember, the greatest birth control device ever created was....the wedding ring.
