Nobody seems to know what the original .297 cartridge was, possible Belgian, but I think it failed and so Mr Morris of Morris Tube fame necked down the cartridge for cadet training. I have never seen a .297/250 in a Cadet training rifle, only in rook rifles, when it became the best choice up until 1914 here in England.

Cases can be made from .22 Hornet by necking them down and shortening. Also the rim needs to be thinned on a lathe from the inside. If you PM me with your postal address I can mail one out to you there to use as a pattern. The bullet used is usually the .25 ACP pistol one, with a tiny amount of Bullseye or similar.

I run a Rook rifle event here at Bisley every April so we get to see lots of different rifles.

I suppose the double .250 is just in case the hunter gets charged by the Rabbit.....
