I don't have loading data at hand for the .500-416. However, with the original 400 or 410 grain bullets, it's no great trick to get 2400 fps out of the .416 Rigby. As a matter of fact, the max load in Nosler's manual, with the 400 grain Partition and Rl-19 gives over 2500 fps. The .500-416 appears to have the same case capacity so I would bet that the same applies. That's a hell of a cartridge, regardless of what it's called. My friend likes to boast that his .375 H&H delivers the same energy at 200 yards that the .30-06 does at the muzzle, and with essentially the same trajectory. He doesn't like to hear that the .416 Rigby and the .500-416 do the same at 300 yards!! |
