Re: .600 Nitro on a Ruger No.1 ?!?

Gents - I've got a Ruger #1 in 450 NE. it's the Boddington series. I've put 10 full-tilt-and-boogie rounds through it. OUCH isn't the word. On the scale it weighs a tad over 7 lb. Think that has something to do with the recoil?

Ed Hammond over at Nyati, Inc, worked up some reduced load 350gr and 300gr bullets that are fairly easy on the shoulder, but the 480gr factory stuff is waaay too hard to shoot. I'm using a PAST pad and a recoil pad on the stock. I'm going for Magna Brake and mercury in the stock. I hope that will tame the beast.

Otherwise, I'll sell it to one of you at a reasonable price. Let you break blood vessels in your shoulder.

Point being, a 600NE with a 900gr bullet at 1950 fps had better have a 12-15 lb #1, or it will turn into a safe queen. I have met Rob Garnick and shot his 600 Overkill. Not bad at 2100 fps, but it's a lot heavier than the #1.
