Kenya: Bush Meat Could Cause Death, Says KWS Official The Nation (Nairobi) 7 October 2007 George Munene Nairobi People living next to forests and game reserves were yesterday told no to eat bush meat. Conservationist Winnie Kiiru warned that the meat could be infected with deadly diseases such as anthrax. "Bush meat which is not inspected could cause death and people should not eat it," she said. People hunt for rabbits, antelopes and other animals and hurriedly use the meat for food, endangering their lives, she added. (NE comment -> ) Conservation Addressing a meeting at Ndiriti village of Kirinyaga district to stress the importance of wildlife conservation, she said it was illegal to interefere with wildlife in any way. The meeting, sponsored by the Kenya Wildlife Service and NGO Born Free, was the initiative of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology lecturer Marion Mutugi.
