I could be wrong, of course. Just ask my ex-wife. But, it seems to me that a lot of the people who wrote these books don't much like each other. For instance, and let me for once avoid Capstick, when John Osborne says that the taking of the largest ele ever killed in the former Rhodesia or current Zimbabwe in what is now the Gona-Re-Zhou by a "South African plutocrat" was a disgrace, I somehow sense he doesn't feel to highly of Richard Harland. The guy who, you know, guided that particular plutocrat to that particular elephant. The thing is, I like the books written by both Richard Harland and John Osborne. So it's difficult for me to take sides. Actually it's impossible for me to take sides, as I wasn't there. So I enjoy them both. And I accept the fact that reality is going to be something different than what I was led to believe once I get there. Now, back to Capstick . . . |
