Re: 318 Westley Richards

Is there anything a 318 westley richards could do that a 300 H&H couldn't?

Hit harder a lot closer.

.333 Jeffery with 300 grain projectiles is another. SD is astronomical.
The .300 H&H was considered a 'light' rifle for smaller soft skinned game. From memory the factory load was a 150 soft. It also came in a flanged (rimmed) version for doubles.

All these older cartridges used FMJ/solids and conventional softs to earn their reputations. If you start to compare high velocity magnums and premium modern projectiles you'll end up going in circles.

For three classic cartridges you go any number of combos.

7x57
.300H&H
.375H&H

.300H&H
.375H&H
.416 Rigby

.250 Savage
.318WR
.450/400 3"

.275 Rigby
.333 Jeffery
.470 NE

It all depends on the rifle/terrain and game you hunt.
Or the size of the safe you keep them in.
