Rifle Build

Wanted to share a few photos of a recent experience I had at the local NRA gunsmithing school. I signed up for the one week summer course on "Blueprinting Actions". The students and faculty were great. Couldn't have met a nicer group of people and a great way to spend vacation.

The action I worked on was a remington 700. All machining was indicated in coaxialy and cut single point. Action will be barreled with a match reamer in .308. Here are some pics;

Creating a Mandrel for a tight clearance fit to the raceways. Dial indicators were then set up off the mandrel to coaxially indicate in the action.

The receiver in a cats head / spyder fixture after being indicated in. Facing the receiver face at this point.

Single point cutting of internal threads. A lot of pucker factor on this one. Have to accomplish this operation referencing only dial readouts.

Machining the bolt true after indicating it in (another fixture).
