My very dear friend Zulfiqar Effendi also known as Zulf the Wolf was a big game hunter par excellance.He was a regular visitor to Africa having hunted the big five twice over.Apart from this, practically every animal in Africa including the likes of giraffe,baboon and hyena etc. had been bagged by him.
Every animal shot was stuffed by the best taxidermist in the business(highveld taxidermy) and mounted. He had converted a major portion of his huge mansion in Karachi into a trophy room and hired an interior designer to arrange lighting and placement of his trophies.The room was a sight to behold and we spent many hours there admiring the animals.
Zulf was a fun loving character and a big time boozer.With him every hour was happy hour and when in Africa he was the main attraction.PHs from all over would gather when he was there and would have a ball of a time(he was an extremly generous host).
Once on a leopord hunt in the kalahari he spotted a big lion and even though did not have a permit shot it.The PHs were aghast but Zulf calmly told them to sort it out which they eventually did.
All the good times and booze finally got to him and in March this year he died of liver cancer.Knowing him i'm sure he is somewher up there with a rifle in his hands roaming the happy hunting grounds.
