20 bore project...
      12/01/08 07:43 PM

Hello all, I'm a new member here and have no blackpowder experience whatsoever.
I recently bought an enfield snider which had been rebored and rechambered to 20 gauge (smoothbored unfortunately). Since the chamber in the sniders is cut into the action as well as the barrel I can't restore it to it's origional chambering (.577 snider).
I'm keen on at least rebarreling it to achieve some accuracy. My first instinct was to have a rifled barrel made in 20 bore to suit. But I have recently thought that since the brass cases accept a .578" bullet that I would like to have it chambered for 20 bore but with a bore to suit the smaller bullet mentioned above.
Does this sound like a reasonable idea?
I was thinking that if I do not I would have to use a heeled bullet to allow the projectiles to seat into the rifling properly. Any thoughts on this idea?
Don't spare my feelings! If I'm missing something feel free to let me know.
Cheers
