I have no idea what that matte finish is... but it is not proving to be particularly durable...
the 8x57 would be a great candidate for a conversion, the first picture is actually from the guy I bought it from, I had the glass fitted before it was delivered to me (kinda regretting that now, honestly).
the wood has darkened a little and looks much more classic in appearance now, I'll try to get a couple new pics snapped here soon.
