As for the 235 grain Speer, it is a good deer bullet. I've killed several deer with it at full tilt velocity. Trouble is, they always shot very high out of my rifle and I could not use the same sight setting as that for my 300 grain load. The "current" Lite 220 shoots as pictured a wee bit high but very close. I just bought some 225 Hornady's and in comparing the two bullets, the 220 appears to have a longer bearing surface. I loaded up some 225's using the same 5744 charge as the 220's, and will be interested to see where they print. The 5744 load gives velocities pretty similar to that obtainable from a similar weight bullet in the 9.3x57 which was the original goal {along with similar sighting}.

450: I am not shocked to hear of your good success with the 220 at longish range for a FP. If you look at my post on the .375 Penetration thread you will see that the 220 opens fast in my test media and does not penetrate quite as far as does the 300, but in that "torture test" at 20 meters, it holds together fairly well. This usually indicates pretty good performance at 150-200 yards as the bullet has "gone to sleep" by then and with lower velocity penetration increases. Usually. Some very low velocity rounds just don't have the speed necessary even to do any work past 150.

Anyway, what velocity were you pushing the 220 at? I suspect you were driving that bullet at full speed and thus at 175 or so you would have velocity similar to my low speed load.
