Brownie's last days seem to be drawing nearer as she lies in isolation at the Veterinary Unit of the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC) in Entebbe.
Brownie, 28, is the oldest female buffalo at the centre.
The veterinary doctor at the centre, David Hyroba, explained that Brownie's health was deteriorating fast.
"Her system is breaking down like in any old human being. She is not on medication and we decided to monitor her up to her last days without interference," he said.
Hyroba said though the buffalo had lost a lot of weight, she had developed a good appetite.
"She chews two sacks of elephant grass in a day with varieties of fruits."
One of the attendants, Michael Ochen, explained that Brownie had become very friendly.
Brownie, who got her name from the colour of her hair coat, was born in Entebbe Zoo in June 1979. Her companion, Blackie, who was born at the same place in May 1979, died in 2003
