Which caliber for Africa?
      29/01/07 11:26 AM

This is a great site, lots of good intresting info. For those of you with experance in Africa I am requesting your advice on the following.

I am planning my first hunting trip to Africa next year. I have hunted all my life, first Red Deer in Scotland and since 82 White Tail Deer in Manitoba, Canada. Most of my game has been taken with a Ruger No1 .30-06 with a Zeiss 8x56, using a 180 gr SBT at 2600 fps zeroed at 300 yds. I looked at Merkel rifles at the Shot Show and fell im love with the B3 Jagd O/U rifle, the balance was superb, I belive balance is very under rated in hunting rifles. I used to own a Watson DR in .450/400 and I intend to purchase a DR in this caliber for Buffalo and a Merkel O/U in a lighter caliber. My dilema is should I stay with my much loved .30-06 or move to the 9.3 x 74R in the light Merkel O/U for "Plains Game"? For Buffalo I plan on the .450/400 or should I use something heavier?

Thanks John
