Kenya: Grave Danger As Raging Floods Wash Crocodiles Into Town

Part of Hola town has been submerged by raging flood waters following heavy rains. Meanwhile, area DC Jacob ole Matipei said those displaced were more than 30,000.
Mr Matipei said the affected families in Hola town had sought assistance from relatives and friends living on higher grounds. The DC, speaking on the telephone, said it was feared that more families would be affected if the flooding continued.
Fears have been raised by Hola town residents that crocodiles would end up in the town due to the flooding. At Laza estate, more than 10 houses have been submerged. The heavy rains have cut off transport between Garsen and Hola towns and only special four-wheel drive vehicles can make it on the road.
Yesterday, residents said they were paying Sh1,000 for transport to Garsen and Hola, a journey that usually costs Sh300.
Mr Matipei said the government and the Kenya Red Cross were working round the clock to distribute relief food to the victims, and provide mosquito nets to protect the people from malaria.
