I found a DR with barrels that are chambered in 8x57r but they are severly pitted on the inside. To the point of large craters in the barrel walls.

I'd call Dan Pederson www.cutrifle.com (with a set of calipers in hand) and tell him the problem. Then ask him if he thinks there's enough wall thickness in the barrels, to rebore them to 9.3... Of course he'll have to see the barrels eventually and take physical measurement from them, but if there’s enough steel in the walls that they can be re-rifled and re-regulated - you'll come out ahead vs. the price of complete new barrels.
