Double Shooting Discipline

What is the prevailing thoughts of those here on shooting money shots with Doubles on unspooked game? Followup immediately with the 2nd for a one-two smash or hold the 2nd in reserve for the animals flight? I am assuming the PH will back up your double. Previous historical dogma seems to suggest to hold the 2nd shot in reserve.

Any thoughts on this?

If possible with a PH backup I lean toward a 2nd hit asap instead of a runnng butt or quartering shot depending on the response of the animal. If the animal is skittish obviously that ain't gonna happen. Is this important?

Stalking a wounded dangerous game animal is a different matter entirely.
Never been there but I assume you hold fire till the attacker is close enough to brainshoot x2-Blam,Blam!!

Any comments? Am I all wet or are there basic essentials of double shooting to learn?
