No cartridges are loaded today with CORDITE! All cartridges, today are loaded with nitrocellulouse (smokeless powder) of different burning rates. CORDITE is a very unstable propelant, and not only very sensitive to temprature changes, but is somewhat costic to the bore.

I would say that if STRENGTH is all you are looking for, then "FUCH" bolt action double rifle, will fill the bill, though it is far from the BEST double rifle one can own.

The size of the cartridge is no indication of how strong the action has to be! Most of the old doubles with the Jones under lever were mostly very low pressure black powder rounds, some are as large as 2 bore. The chamber pressures developed by these old cartridges was very low, under 8 Imp long tons, while many of the very small modern cartridges will develope 65,000 CUP! Most cartridges suited to use in double rifle opperate at under 38,000 CUP, while 45,000 is getting on the hot side, but still acceptable in strong doubles. Even if brand new, a break top double rifle made of modern steel is still 19th century technology, and not well suited to high pressure chamberings.
