Can you identify a Mauser 98 marking?

I have acquired a Mauser 98 sporter and wonder if anyone can tell anything about the name marked on the underside of the barrel.

The action has no maker marks anywhere in fact the only marking on the action above the stockline is the serial number and a German proofmark

Any help is appreciated, Thanks
