This rifle would have been converted to Hornet most likely around 1949 making it one of the early models as production commenced in 1949. The original receiver is a 1918 Lithgow SMLE No1 Mk III. The Model 24 is built up from an original SMLE action. The barrel is similar in profile to the SMLE barrel (leftover stock?) and fitted with graduated slide back-sight and sporting style fore-sight. The trigger guard is modified to accept a 22 Hornet magazine. Butt and fore-end are chequered. On mine, it looks like 3 different types of timber was used – beautiful timber but hidden under some ugly brown varnish. "

so I understand Lithgow http://www.lithgowarms.com/about-us/ start making sporting rifles in 1949 using old SMLE parts on stock in different caliber. it seems not many were build at all because they dont get my attention before.
how many of this hunting rifles were made, how long and in which caliber.
you see military parts were used here but the rifle looks much better than a simple homemade sporter. not a lee speed but I would say collectible at all.
