Anyone driven out to Cobourg Peninsula, NT ?
      19/03/18 06:04 PM

Have any of our Territorians or other members driven out to Garig Gunak Barlu National Park, Cobourg Peninsula?

Going to be hunting up in the Top End later this year with Curl.

After the hunt and probably after dropping Curl off to the airport, I am thiunking of driving up to the Cobourg Peninsula, to do some camping, photography and filming.

Been there myself with Matt Graham. But flew out there. Thinking of driving this time.

I know it involves permits for Arnhemland. Also crossing at Cahill's Crossing, on the East Alligator River. Is this the same river crossing, which is the border of Kakadu? If so, probably been there.

Interested in any personal comments on the drive in, park etc. Will probably see if Karl Goodhand has any comments. He is the concession holder for the park and banteng now.

Some links I am storing here for future reference:

Cobourg Peninsula and aboriginal history.

The Black Point Culture Centre is located at the Black Point Ranger Station within the Garig Ganuk Barlu National Park on the Cobourg Peninsula north east of Darwin. It provides visitors an insight into the rich history of the Cobourg Peninsula. Aboriginal people, Macassan traders and European pioneers have all made their mark on this land in varying ways. Displays include traditional Aboriginal bush tucker, history and artefacts, evidence of Macassan trading and a history of the failed Victoria Settlement, an early attempt to establish a town in northern Australia. A display on some recent history shows how an Indonesian fisherman was blown across from the Indonesian islands in his canoe, which is now showcased at the museum.
