#1s can be all over as far as accuracy. Older ones were made with Wilson barrels and the quality could be all over the board. Then I am told, they used Green Mountain barrels for a while. MUCH better results. Now they make their own.
I attended a "sniper's symposium" and shoot a few years ago and there were attendees from all over, mostly from Military branches (US and ALLIES) and a large number of cops. Only a very few civilians were shooting, and those few civilians (non-veterans) were invited by one of the members.
The kid (19 years old) who won the match shot a stock 270 Winchester in a Ruger #1.
Now THAT got the attention of the other shooters, especially those that were so confident that they would win because of their multi-thousand dollar guns and scopes, as well as their wind gauges and computers. The kid shot his rifle with none of that stuff. Just a map, compass, ghillie suit and a stock rifle with a weaver K6 on it.
He won.
2nd and 3rd place scores were close to him, but most other shooters and teams were beaten by him badly.
He was a real artist, and confirmed what I have been saying for 40 years.

It's 98% the man and 2% what he's using.

#1s can be up and down, but his was on of the "ups" ------- obviously.
