I arrive a bit late. Should that happens in my garden, I would be very puzzled.
I agree it's nature in action, why interfer.
In fact everybody is pleased whith having deers in or close the backyard.
Having a bear is a different story.
Personally, for the safety of the wife and the kids, I'd first inform the police and if any solution is ASAP found, I'd gladly shoot the bear, either officially or unofficially depending on the mind of the police. Period.
