Today was the start date on my new lease.

No surprise then, that I decided to get over there at sparrow fart, and see what the Roe situation was like.

I had a good idea of where I might see a Doe, so set off walking the edge of a stubble field, alongside a wood.

The light wind from the SE, was a wee bit swirly, but generally good.

What was not so good were the Woodpigeons, roosting in the wood. They clattered away, about a hundred of them, spooking three Roe. The deer ran around, not knowing what the problem was, only that something was amiss, finally jumping the fence into very thick cover.

I got into the wood and followed a track, seeing, and spooking, four more Roe.

Returning to the car, I headed down to the river. Three more Roe in a stubble field ran into the wood at the approach of my car.

I parked by the river, grabbed my rifle etc. and stalked the edge of the wood. Another five Roe out in the park, some way off, had moved by the time I had approached a shooting position.

Following a track through the wood, to give me a circuit back to the car, the wind was steady into my face, when I spotted a Roe back in the stubble field. I had an easy approach within the wood, and stopped to glass the deer.

It was a doe, with two calves.

I took the mature Doe first, then the doe calf. The buck calf had round number three.

They fitted nicely in my carcass tray.

They are now hanging in my shed.

Steve.
