Mannlicher sighting in San Antonio
      16/08/13 02:02 PM

I was at the SAXET gunshow two weeks ago, and saw an interesting Mannlicher Schonauer for sale on a guy's table. I wasn't able to get pictures, but I did take a few notes. It was a 1903 with a rifle-length forend, non-take down. It was wearing a white-line Pachmayr recoil pad and was scoped with a steel-tube Weaver K4-1 microtrac scope (1980's) mounted very high in a E.C.ECHO Herkner side mount. Double triggers, no grip cap trap, but it did have a pop up tang sight, very much like the Baillie-Grohman peep sight. The really neat part (I thought) was that it was marked on the barrel "AD FORKEY of TEXAS San Antonio" and "257 Robts". A little Google tells me that AD Forkey worked for Kleinguenther in Seguin in the 40s and 50s, and then went on his own, but I don't know how reliable that is. All of this had an asking price of $1600.

I have no connection with this rifle, and don't even have the owner's name. He'll probably be at the next SAXET show first weekend of September.
