Early 98 Mauser?
      13/02/12 04:32 AM

I purchased a sporterized 98 simply because the seller stated the metal was rust free and the bore as new & it was. I needed an 8 x 57 barrel and the $ were right. When it arrivedI noticed the serial # was 546, receiver and bolt match, no name on the action and I would say not scrubbed off. Here are the marks I have; 8-57 plus an + (cross) on the barrel, st ---?, N183Gr ( I believe is nitro proofed with a 183 grain bullet) on the large receiver ring. On the under side are the following; F, E, H, V, J and the # 7. Could it possibly be a commercial unit sold to some smithy as a barreled action? and therefore no id. marks.

Any info. on the action - date of mfg. & by whom etc. would be appreciated. --- John303.
