Gentlemen,

last year I obtained out of curiosity a plain .378 Weatherby with a 26" barrel without scope and without a muzzle brake.
I tested it three times for velocity from the bench and feared at every shot that I would flinch so hard that I would destroy the screens.
Upto now I was lucky...

Sierra 300grs Spitzer SP BT gave very good groups at 50 meters, but group size increased in accordance with the number of shots and as the loads got higher. The last 3-shot group was bad at about 4 inches, but the reason was only the shoother!

Hornady 300grs SPRN shot also very precisely.

I also tested the Barnes 270grs TSX with a compressed charge of Rottweil R905 (approx. Reloader22) and obtained "only" 910,6 m/s.

The Woodleigh 350grs PP bullet can be loaded with a compressed charge of R905 to the max. recommended inpact velocity of 762 m/s / 2500fps.

After reading about the failures of standard bullets in the 378 Weatherby I recommend to load the 300grs Partition, the 300grs Accubond and the 300grs Swift A-Frame.

Last observation:
factory load with 270grs bullet @ 965,2 m/s(Hornady Spire Point ?)recoils definetely worse than the 300grs bullet @ 891,6 m/s (Hornady SPRN ?).

For all people interested in this caliber I recommend:
- the Past recoil shield shoulder straps in the thick Magnum version
- to grind the trigger for a well rounded edge
- to protect the fingers from the recoiling trigger guard with a shooting glove
