Cogswell and Harrison

Someone I work with showed me a gun that his father handed down to him. At first it looked like a Parker Hale because of the action, but the only markings I saw was on the barrel: Cogswell and Harrison 168 Piccadilly, London; on the bolt release:37; and the serial number: low 600's. The story goes that his mother bought it for his father (all wives take notice) in 1965, used, for $700. It is chambered in 8x57 JS. Does anyone have any info on this maker and their rifles? Thanks in advance.
