I don't think African game is any more difficult to kill than those in North America. I think, in general, problems arise due to a lack of knowledge when it comes to African game anatomy. I think you'd agree that in most African plains game, the heart/lung area lies much more forward as compared to Deer and Elk. Most hunters here in the states opt for a behind the shoulder shot, as this is where the largest vital area is, but on most plains game, this same shot would be a wounding one. I've found that on plains game, the best shot is generally on the point of the shoulder.

As far as being more difficult to hunt/stalk:we're comparing apples and oranges. In Africa, most hunts are conducted on private land, with no other hunters on the property. By contrast, here in my home state of Pennsylvania, most hunting is on public/state forest/game lands. We have over 1 million licensed hunters in the state, and our rifle deer season only lasts for 2 weeks, with no hunting permitted on sundays. You put that many hunters into the forests, with their scent wafting toward the deer from every direction, and you've got a very alert and cautious animal.

By contrast, on the African hunts the animals are more alert to the presence of predators: lion, leopard, hyena, jackal, etc. Game densities are much higher, variety of game greater, and with only one hunting party in the bush at a time, stalking is easier.
