Round balls do very little, if any slugging in the bore, of that I am certain. This is due somewhat to the cloth patch, round base and easy fit with low enertia.
With heavy loads, when I drop the thickness of the patch even a few thou, I start to get burnt patches, which shows very little or no obturation (slugging up).
