Historic stock pads

I am looking for any information about historic stockpads(before 1945), especially patents, advertising and so on.
Also i have seen years ago an patent ( as far as i remember around 1910 ) about an pad with an hydraulic (anti recoil) system but dont find it anymore. If someone know about this or have seen ever an original it would be great to get any information.
