I don't know if it is Kapok I have been using for years, I doubt it, but it is the sort of thing one buys at a materials store, for sewing, and is sold for stufffing into teddy bears and such, and for making quilting. This sort of thing I have never seen burn, upon firing from rifle, but one can see it leave the barrel, but not on fire or anything like that. Years ago, Elmer Keith had me cutting my own cork wads, from heavy cork one buys at automotive parts store for gasket making material. This cork looks to be composed of numerous pieces of cork glued together, and it breaks easily with a bit of hand force, so I am sure it breaks up readily upon firing. Sometimes I used one wad, but more often I used two, one on top of another, so the wads wouldn't move in cartridge in one barrel, when other barrel is fired (this is always a concern, and has caused problems, Keith told me). I never did have problems with these cork wads, but in late years, I began to use the dacron suggested by Seyfried, and I haven't looked back. Everything considered, my opinion is that it is the best for filling space in cartridge shell---it seals bore behind bullet, it moves from cartridge with ease and no chance of jam, as can and has been seen to happen with early day use of cereals, ground up plastic--as used as filler in shotgun shells, it doesn't burn, and it just works
very well. From what I know about Seyfried's writing on handloading, I am convinced that he is one of very few who really knows what he is talking about, for it agrees 100% with what I have found to be true after shooting and handloading doubles for many many years, so I listen to him. I didn't mean to attack Wright or his writing, but, frankly, I was just shocked that he wrote what he wrote that seemed to be questionable, so I thought that I would see what the Australians had to say. Was surprised that, it seemed to me, they circled the wagons, said some pretty insulting things to me, as if I was attacking Wright or something, and they followed up by saying some insulting things about American writers who said things they couldn't accept, making it seem that American writers are not respected, but their Australian one is respected. Hell, I had no idea I was opening such a can of worms, and had I had that thoght, I wouldn't have posted my comment on the Wright book at all. I think too, that some things were read into what I wrote, and taken out of shape, due to emotions involved. Hell, I think the world of Australians. My dad was in the Marines, and fought the Japanese in the Pacific, all the way to the occupation of Japan, and he told me that the Australians were the best of fighters, and very good friends, though he had trouble understanding their English, ha, ha.
