Oh My God - Do Not Do This !!!!

I have a mannlicher that can be fired in this way. If you engage the bolt so that it does not slide open but is not fully closed, when you pull the trigger, the bolt closes under the spring tension and fires the pin. It doesn't happen if the safety is engaged though.

If you are that worried about it, buy a quiet action and leave the chamber unloaded. Cycle the action when you want to fire a shot.

If you have a good safety that blocks the firing pin, then there "should" be no problem. However, this depends on the safety being correctly applied and not subsequently flicked off by a piece of brush, etc.

Incidentally, I've also known some Mausers (not Obendorf commercials) that could be fired accidentally by wiggling the safety around... I don't trust safeties, which is why they are not acceptable on target ranges. Any weapon with a round in the chamber must be considered loaded and capable of being fired. Bear that in mind and everyone should be safe
