The only tricky area that I see is the magazine. The 375 2 1/2 NE is just slightly longer than a 303. A factory loaded 375 NE won't fit the magazine because the round is to long. The front magazine lips and guide ribs would have to be adjusted or the magazine converted to single stack. The cartridge would then need to be loaded to a slightly shorter OAL.

The original 375x2.5" Flanged NE rounds were actually a bit shorter than recent loadings. I have a couple of rounds of Kynoch that I got with my 375x2.5" Flanged H&H (built on a Steyr 1892 action), and it is 3.09 to 3.10 OAL. Here it is flanking a 303 factory load.



I have an Army&Navy marked BSA 303 factory sporter (without charger guide-very similar to the No. 1 Pattern in Far Canel's post), and the mag will accept the few of these rounds that I have without alteration. It even feeds them from the mag. If they were seated to 3.05 OAL I believe that they would work perfectly. If you wanted to crimp in the crimping groove of 270 Hornady RN's you could trim the case length to slightly less than 2.5", or just use the 303 or 30/40 brass that has been run through the 375x2.5 sizing die without trimming. The Buffalo Arms 40/70 SS is actually formed from 30/40 brass at 2.5" in length, and works great in my H&H bolt and double in 375x2.5 Flanged (big savings over Bertram). The 405 Win brass works in the bolt, but is too large at the base for my double (but so is new Westley Richards factory ammo ).





I also have a C. Riggs 303 factory sporter (with charger guide) that would require a very slight bit of modification to the feed lips to work, but nothing that the average hobbyist could not do on his own. I think that this would be a great project for a redo on a Lee-Enfield. I have had great fun with my H&H/Steyr, and if I can find a Lee-Enfield factory sporter with a shot-out barrel I would like to do just this.
