Estimated numbers here in Slovenia is between 450-500 (maybe more) - we shoot ~ 100 annualy. Not an bio-expert but I guess EU brown bear (Ursus arctos) is closely related to grizzly bear (Ursus arctos horribilis) as well as to Kodiak bear (Ursus arctos middendorffi). EU brown bear are smaller tho - reaching up to 350 kg - 770 lbs (full weight).
